Could Portsmouth's 20mph approach work on residential streets nationwide?

Vauxhall Lib Dem campaigner Caroline Pidgeon travelled with the London Assembly's Transport Committee to Portsmouth on Tuesday 18 November to assess how effectively the 20mph limit introduced on all residential streets is improving road safety in the seaside city.

Tory Mayor cancels trams for north Lambeth

Caroline Pidgeon, London Assembly Liberal Democrat spokesperson on transport, and Vauxhall's Lib Dem campaigner, has slammed Mayor Boris Johnson's decision to stop plans for trams from Brixton and Peckham to Waterloo and Camden.

Labour's "ghost libraries" scam in Lambeth

Lambeth Liberal Democrat Councillor Andrew Sawdon has demanded to know what special measures Lambeth used to improve its rating in the eyes of government inspectors, after the beleaguered Council tried to boost the borough's figure for library opening hours for a vital government inspection by setting up three temporary "ghost libraries", two in Brixton and one in Clapham, which were open for only six weeks. One of them issued no books in its entire, short lifetime.

Action agreed on taxi touting in Vauxhall

Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson Caroline Pidgeon recently held an action meeting at Vauxhall Cross with local Lib Dem Cllr Rob Banks and a representative from Viva Vauxhall Residents' Association. Representatives from Transport for London (TfL), the police and the Public Carriage Office (PCO) attended to talk about the issue of taxi touting in the area and to come up with an action plan to try to tackle this nuisance and dangerous issue.

Free smoke alarms available

The London Fire Brigade are carrying out free home fire safety visits in Lambeth. This involves a visit by your local fire crew, which is booked in at your convenience, who will visit your home and be able to advise you on many aspects of fire safety, from minimising the risk of a fire taking place to what to do if a fire breaks out and you are trapped in your home. They will also, where necessary, provide you with a free smoke alarm.

Vauxhall welcomes Liberal Democrat Vision for Britain

Liberal Democrats in Vauxhall have welcomed the launch of the Liberal Democrats' vision for Britain by Party Leader Nick Clegg MP. Called 'Make it Happen', the paper will be debated at the party's conference in Bournemouth in September.
